We are sailing on that very cruise -27th July from Port Canaveral. Your boys dont need to worry -ours dont dress up - they are now 18 +14 and have cruised with RCI on 2 previous occasions. In fact for all passengers it's a case of please yourself.

Yes, you will find that the American children are suitably dressed - mini-tuxedos and girls in floaty pretty dresses. Don't let the side down.

If you don't want to go to the expense of a tux may I suggest that a white shirt with a black bow tie and possibly a blazer or jacket and slacks would be equally suitable and hype up the children's clubs to get them in a good mood, they are going to have so much fun.....Id.

After 27 cruises on RCI, 4 on Mariner, I can count on one hand the number of children I've seen in 'mini-tuxedos'! My children are 8 & 13 years old, we always dress them smart and fashionably on formal nights but I can guarantee that there won't be any tuxs in the kids clubs. My kids are a little nervous going into the kids clubs on the 1st day but after that we never see them! They are often later to bed than us.

My niece (12) and nenphew (14) were on a Caribbean cruise last year with RCI. My niece was really looking forward to the formal nights and my nephew was dreading it. She was really dissappointed that the kids were not dressed up enough as she was hoping to persuade her parents to let her hair and nails done in the spa to compliment the 2 new dresses she'd got them to buy her but found out that most children ( and some of the adults) did not dress that formaly. needless to say my nephew was over the moon.

The OP did not ask about kids slubs - I assume that children get changed out of their good clothes after dinner before they go to the kids clubs. I have seen children in mini-tuxedos, as well as smart shirts and ties, and jackets, and suits. So long as they are not wearing their hoodies....

My 13 year old son loves formal night. He wears a black jacket, and black tousers (which can be worn for school after).Shirt and tie one night, bow tie the next.Look out for sale items,I've had some great bargains.RCI are great for kids. They will have a brilliant time.
