We did your itinerary on Sea Princess last Sept/Oct. We always do our own thing and didn't go on any organised tours. Quebec is stunning and the cruise ships dock right in the centre so you just walk straight into the old town, and you can get a funicular up to the Chateau. The ships couldn't be any closer. In Boston there was a shuttle bus into town from the dock ( too far to walk) and we then followed the marked historic trail which we found interesting. It is easy to find and you can stop when you want. Boston is a big modern city. At Bar Harbour we took the trolley to the top of Cadillac mountain - well worth the trip but again we just bought our tickets in town when we landed ashore. I loved Bar Harbor - this was what I'd come to see. Some people went whale watching there but unfortunately didn't see any whales and were very sea sick which ruined 24 hours for them ! We walked all round Halifax and up to the Citadel - it depends how fit you feel - you could do a bus tour - we both like walking. We had a rainy day in Newport so there wasn't too much to see - might be worth doing an excursion from there as apart from the boutiques on the jetties there is not much to see. Although if you wander the back streets you can find some intersting old buildings. We also had rain in St John and the horse drawn trolleys were cancelled which was the only thing I'd wanted to do there. We didn't have enough time in New York to really see it - we will have to go back there. Enjoy your cruise .
