P&O have NOT banned smoking 'anywhere on the ship'. If you Click 'Cruise News' red button, 6 paragraphs down is P&O's new policy.

I was told by P&O that the ban will be across the fleet in 2009 and was able to cancel my cruise for 2009, however I did have to stick out for a free full refund of my deposit as another member of the P&O staff told my travel agent nothing had been finalised as yet. I think I only got my refund because I had been told otherwise and had an E-mail to prove it.

My goodness, you're a martyr to your cause, I can't imagine how hard it must have been to give up that cruise. .... Neil.

Not too difficult really, just disappointing, as much as my husband and myself love cruising we can both see a lot of problems arising between those who smoke and those who dont. My Husband is a tolerent ex smoker and as such doesn't preach to people where they should and shouldn't smoke, although we both appreciate that there a a good number of people who are badly affected by cigarette smoke, but as P&O are not giving smokers an indoor designated smoking area on their ships we have decided not to cruise with them anymore. I don't agree with smoking in cabins, even I don't do that, but I'm blowed if I am going to stand out in the rain and wind to enjoy something I have been doing for the past 50 years without all the unpleasant remarks smokers get thrown at them these days. I shall miss cruising a lot, at least cruising how it used to be, but not the way it seems to be going these days. It used to be such a friendly atmosphere on board ship with everyone enjoying the experience. Thanks for your comment.

Well said, I totally agree. I dont smoke but a number of my friends do and like you they have smoked for a long time. Why should they pay a lot of money to stand outside on a deck in bad weather. Let's face it, All Europe now suffers from "the climate change" The most annoying thing is that on a large ship with approx. 10-12 bars the cruise lines that still allow smoking inside, allocate just 1 bar for smokers and the non smokers still have a good old moan!
