Find Your Cruise
Hi Howard, cruising is a fantastic way to spend any holiday never mind a special occasion. However there are so many ships that operate in the caribbean, it is very difficult to recommend something without knowing what you like. Do you and your wife prefer formality or informality, lots of facilities and a lively party atmosphere or something a bit more laid back. Would you prefer the height of luxury, absolutely no expense spared or something more reasonably priced? Ship go from 6, 5, 4 & 3 stars Tell us a bit more about what you like, how long you want to go for, when you want to go, type of facilities/activities, price range etc and I'm sure we'll be able to give you some recommendation.
A little more info needed pleasee before we can assist - budget, time of year, duration, anywhere in particular you do /do not want to do; dressed up to the nines with DJs and diamonds every evening or a more casual approach....let us know and we will try and help.
If you want the option of formal or casual, good value and excellent entertainment then for first time cruisers I'd recommend that you look at the Thomson Destiny which is doing a season in 2009 sailing out of the Dominican Republic. If you want 100% informal then Ocean Village is not a bad choice. Upmarket fleets such as RCI and Princess all have big Caribbean programmes but they are American and the passenger list is dominated by US citizens trying to escape the mid-West winter. If being with lots of Americans is a bit too daunting for you then go for the UK ships I've suggested. Whatever you choose I guarantee that you will have the time of your life.
We have been on a number of cruises and would recommend Princess cruises and also Princess but would not recommend Thomson Destiny. If you want more info on cruising and as you are from the same town, perhaps you may wish to contact me at the Estate Agents by the traffic lights on Market Street.
