We sailed on the Norwegian Star two years ago and found the drinks to be expensive. A small glass of house white wine was $8.5 dollars. The 15% is compulsory on the US ships. On board you can buy a bucket of beer (4 for the price of five etc) which does save you money. Cocktails are usually between $7 and $10 depending what is in them. Do not let this out you off as the rest of the facilities are fabulous. One tip I do have and that is the prepaid gratuities. NCL, unlike RCI automatically add gratuities to you on board account. You do not have to accept this, although you do have to let customer relations that you object. If you are happy with this then fine, but be very aware of what they are actually charging you.

Thank you very much for your answer. It's very interesting about the gratuities. Would you advise paying your onboard account in cash rather than putting it on a credit card. Am I right that you end up paying tips twice on your drinks? They asked when I paid for the holiday about paying gratuities at the time and I declined.
